Apple's Intel iBook Successor ? Black Too!

My local Apple dealer saw this one coming - I went in to pretend I was going to buy a new Macbook Pro (well I can dream can’t I?) and he suggested I hang a couple of weeks.

So today Apple announce the new range of MacBooks, destined to replace the good old iBook range presumably. They are all 13” models and feature Intel Dual Core procesoors from 1.83GHz to 2.0GHz. The top of the range one comes in a rather fetching black, with all models available with an optional glossy LCD screen (no extra cost). All models also come with a built-in iSight camera, infra-red remote control, Gigabit ethernet, Airport Extreme and Bluetooth 2.0.

Contrary to popular conjecture, you still get FireWire 400 (a single one) and 2x USB 2.0 connections. The downside is that you get a lower specced graphics card with the GMA 950 graphics processor with 64MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory. This will still drive an external monitor at up to 1900x1200. The native LCD resolution of the new MacBook is 1280x800 an improvement over the 12” iBook.

One suspects that these will ship by the bucketload – especially the sexy black model.

Prices start at $1099/£749 and reach $1499/£1028 for the top model.
